Preparing for Recovery
Many patients who have a surgery will find that their recovery will involve a bit of self-care. This may be very simple, involving using very basic, non-invasive products. It can be much more involved than this, however, and require the patient to learn how to perform rather complex procedures to attend to their own needs. Sometimes, these procedures will be unpleasant to learn and it may take a while for the patient to adjust. Having the correct supplies on hand is the first step in learning how to administer self-care.
Some patients will find themselves having to manage very complex procedures, such as learning the use of a catheter. These devices entail several different components. There is a leg bag with straps which acts as the collection container for the catheter. There is the catheter itself, of course, and these come in many different designs for different purposes. There are also miscellaneous items such as Surgilube and other lubricants that may be employed by patients to increase comfort. These items can usually be purchased online. One needs to seek the advice of their healthcare provider before making their first purchases, however, to ensure that everything is done correctly.
Some products will not be appropriate for all patients. There are different types of catheters, for instance, and patients must make certain that they purchase the exact model prescribed by their doctor. Most Internet sites have easy interfaces where patients can go through the various options and select those that will provide the best results for them. There may be different manufacturers for the same device, as well, and, provided that one’s doctor approves, one may choose such a device based on price. As is the case with most shopping, purchasing a large quantity generally entails a discount for the customer.
